Title: ADVICE PLEASE Post by cazza on Nov 14th, 2007, 8:38am Hi A little while since i have posted on the whole my ectopics have been a bit less about four a day which is good but i still get them every day! Lately i have had like pressure in my top jaw and my head feels fuzzy all the time im worrying its my blood pressure! Its sort of lightheaded feeling any ideas thanks carol |
Title: Re: ADVICE PLEASE Post by RLR on Nov 14th, 2007, 11:06am Rarely, if ever, can hypertension be sensed. That's why it's known as a silent disease. If you're referring to the area above the upper teeth as your top jaw, then what you are more than likely feeling is pressure from a sinus condition. The sinus passages are capable of enriching oxygen as you breathe in and blocked passages can cause lethargy and the "fuzzy" feeling, as well as light-headedness. If over-the-counter preparations do not relieve symptoms, then it may be wise to visit with your primary care physician to make certain you don't have sinusitis or other condition requiring treatment. Again, I'd stop worrying about blood pressure in this instance. Best regards and Good Health |
Title: Re: ADVICE PLEASE Post by cazza on Nov 14th, 2007, 11:33am Thanks for replying rlr the pressure is at both top joints of my jaw it doesnt feel like sinus trouble i have had that before my head just feels woozy all the time just strange! |
Title: Re: ADVICE PLEASE Post by RLR on Nov 14th, 2007, 2:23pm Well, based upon your description, TMJ is another consideration. If symptoms persist, notify your primary care physician to determine whether direct evaluation is necessary. You'll be fine. Best regards and Good Health |
Title: Re: ADVICE PLEASE Post by suzie on Nov 15th, 2007, 2:25am Hi if it will help, I suffer from TMJ and have done for many years - confirmed by the hospital. This condition can be associated with my sometimes stressed and nervous personality I have - hence the palpitations !!! I tend to grind my teeth when asleep, this caused by worry and stress, and this leads to TMJ and yes I get that heavy feeling in my upper jaws, also in the ears and neck in fact TMJ can cause pain in a number of areas. TMJ can be associated with other things as well but in my instance it does cause the jaw problem as far as the dizziness is concerned, when I got the feeling in the beginning I used to panic and that in itself can make you feel dizzy. |
Title: Re: ADVICE PLEASE Post by cazza on Nov 15th, 2007, 8:14am thanks for replys its the lightheadedness that i hate i just feel woozy i do have an underbite so the presure might be my jaw but i dont know how that would cause the lightheadedness |
Title: Re: ADVICE PLEASE Post by cazza on Nov 27th, 2007, 7:18am well been to doctors and blood pressure ok but heaviness in jaw and lightheadedness still there said it could be a viral infection had it for nearly three weeks now fed up :( |
Title: Re: ADVICE PLEASE Post by cazza on Dec 4th, 2007, 8:55am Rlr just wondering if you know how long a viral infection lasts i have this pressure in my head and feel lightheaded all the time it seems to be getting no better! feels like my head is not mine doctor looked behind eyes etc could not see anything obvious thanks carol |
Title: Re: ADVICE PLEASE Post by RLR on Dec 4th, 2007, 12:48pm Well, if it's actually the case, a viral infection of this type typically lasts 7 to 10 days, but sometimes lingering symptoms can persist for another 5 to 10 days in some persons. If you feel pressure in your face around your cheek bones and forehead, possibly even your teeth ,then I would be concerned whether you may have developed sinusitis. If the pressure is elsewhere, then it may possibly represent mere lingering symptoms from viral infection. If the pressure continues, a plain x-ray of your sinuses would reveal whether sinusitis is present. It's also possible to have otitis media (an inner ear inflammation), which can cause similar symptoms. It is primarily seen in children, but instances do occur in adults and usually follows some type of bacterial or viral infection of the upper respiratory system. In any event, you shouldn't worry that this represents a mass or anything like that if such concern exists. The kind of response observed from such circumstances is entirely different than feeling pressure. It doesn't work like that. Most space-occupying masses interfere with brain tissue function and depending upon the precise location of the mass, patients begin to have seizures or can't talk or walk or demonstrate odd behavior, and pain is typically the last symptom among these features to appear. You stated that your doctor "looked behind your eyes" but I would be surprised if anything were to be abnormal in that regard. With masses or other issues that can affect the optic nerve, we typically see something known as a Marcus Gunn pupil, or a pupil that has a rather paradoxical effect when exposed to light by comparison to the normal eye. We can also see inflammation of the optic disk and other signs of possible neurological involvement, but as I said, this is not a concern for you. If your symptoms persist beyond a total timframe of 2 weeks or grow worse in the interim, then by all means seek examination to determine whether post infection of your sinuses or inner ear inflammation may be present. Best regards and Good Health |
Title: Re: ADVICE PLEASE Post by cazza on Dec 5th, 2007, 1:54am Thanks rlr I have had it for three weeks now and it doesnt feel any worse but no better i think you may be right about inner ear as in the morning it feel like fluid on one side of my head then shifts when i move around then leaves me lightheaded all day if its not gone this weekend i will go back to doctors next week thanks again carol |
Title: Re: ADVICE PLEASE Post by cazza on Dec 14th, 2007, 11:14am Rlr i have been on antibiotics for a week doctor said it could be a sinus infection but i dont feel any better really dizzy any advice thanks carol |
Title: Re: ADVICE PLEASE Post by RLR on Dec 14th, 2007, 1:57pm Sinus infections can sometimes be quite resistent and it can require certain antibiotics at times to gain therapeutic benefit. Drugs like Augmentin have broad-spectrum capabilities and work quite well. My suggestion is that you seek out an otolaryngologist, more commonly known as an ENT or ear, nose & throat specialist. While a sinus infection can cause dizziness in some folks, there may likely be some inner ear involvement. It's definitely impossible for me to diagnose you over the internet and the practice of medicine over the airwaves in certainly a no-no. But my advice here is to seek out a specialist of the variety described. It can sometimes take several weeks of potent antibiotics to get sinusitis under control, so it's off to the doctor with you. Enough time has passed to warrant direct examination and re-evaluation. It's not a life-threatening condition, but needs to be promptly addressed. Best regards and Good Health |
Title: Re: ADVICE PLEASE Post by cazza on Dec 16th, 2007, 2:29am Thanks RLr for replying i am on augmentin i have one more day to go but like you i feel it is more inner ear over here in england you have a long wait to get referred to an ent specialist on the nhs but i think this is the route i will have to take not going to be a very bright xmas for me! Title: Re: ADVICE PLEASE Post by beadbabe on Dec 16th, 2007, 3:15am Hi Cazza Hope you can get this sorted out. It is horrible feeling light headed and dizzy all the time. Try not to be concerned about it because it's usually nothing to worry about (apart from feeling awful). What I want to say though (and although it may not be this at all) is that have you thought about how many of us have had dizzy ness all the time and been down the ENT route and there has been nothing to report other than a diagnosis of anxiety. This may be all it boils down to when you have seen the specialist (could take weeks or months as you say!). All my problems stem from dizzyness - neurologist and ent specialist seen and nothing to be bothering them. Diagnosis - anxiety. Well if I didn't have it before I do now - palpitations on top. It can't be coincidence that so many of us have had the same problems as well as our funny heart beats... Try to enjoy your Christmas and not worry about the outcome of the horrible feelings. I have been there with constant dizzy feeling for months despite being told this is not actually possible. (IT IS!) By and large it is gone now, but comes back when I am tired or moving my eyes about a lot. Whatever it is don't worry about it. It is most unlikely to be something to dread as dizzyness is compensated for by the brain eventually (I was told) even if you have menieres disease or a viral infection. You just have to put up with feeling rotten but worry won't help as this also makes you dizzy on top of anything that might be wrong with you (if there is anything - I am not saying there is or isn't!) Take care And happy Christmas bead xxx |
Title: Re: ADVICE PLEASE Post by cazza on Dec 16th, 2007, 4:56am Thanks bead Obviously it crosses my mind because i have palps all the time every day but to be honest for the last few months i have sort of accepted them and dont worry half as much. This dizziness and lightheadedness has been with me over a month now and i have generally felt unwell too but i will keep an open mind thanks and merry xmas carol x |
Title: Re: ADVICE PLEASE Post by beadbabe on Dec 16th, 2007, 6:01am Hope you feel better soon. At my worst I remember asking the doctor is it really possible to feel THIS ILL with anxiety and she answered yes it was. I couldn't really believe it. I felt like I had some major something wrong with me - what I did not know. In a way I hope that there is something minor they can pinpoint for you and say that is what it is - anxiety is such a vague diagnosis and the symptoms don't seem to go away when you are better. It seems to take a lot longer than that. Take care and look after yourself bead x |
Title: Re: ADVICE PLEASE Post by Kathryn on Dec 16th, 2007, 11:59pm Hi I suffer with sinusitus sometimes, and that makes me feel not quite with it and light headed, I also always get loads of palpitations when I have it. At the moment my sinuses are feeling a bit achey, it can also make my ears feel funny, but then it's all connected so it would. Hope you feel better soon Kath x |
Title: Re: ADVICE PLEASE Post by angiebaby on Dec 18th, 2007, 1:34pm Hi Carol. Can't be of much help really but just thought i would let you know that i understand totally what you are going through with this. I have been having dizziness now for 2 1/2 years and it has got steadily worse and worse. I know that some of it could be down to anxiety, i know i have anxiety now, but i still believe that there is something going on with my ears. Well, after waiting and suggesting and a bit of a struggle i must say, i have been re referred to ENT and i have my appt on jan 10th 08!! I am glad that i am not having to wait about 8 months for this, but i know that it is just an assessment appt and i will have to wait again after this for tests i suppose. But at least i am slowly getting somewhere now. Am not looking forward to the tests that they will do either as they will promote my dizziness and make it worse then i will panic, but i suppose this is the only way they can check to see if anything is wrong or not so i am willing to give it a go. I believe that mine is a combination of sinus's, neck and ears and of course the big bad ogre ANXIETY! I hope you are feeling a bit better today and i will keep you updated from my appt. I don't know about you but the dizziness is terrible for me. I walk into doors, door frames, walls and fall over quite a lot too. I suffer terrible symptoms with my ears, noises, shutting off, humming, tinnitus, pulsating, feeling of fullness etc. Do you get these symptoms too? Let us know how you are doing. Take care.x |
Title: Re: ADVICE PLEASE Post by cazza on Dec 19th, 2007, 11:07am thanks for replying angie Mine is mainly lightheadedness and dizziness when i move my head the most annoying symptom is my head feeling like a lead weight is in it. I think it is all connected to my ears to be honest i think rlr was right it is an inner ear infection and its taking a hell of a long time to heal up! Today touch wood i feel at tiny bit better but if its not any better next week im off back to the doctors of course to add to it all my palps have been terrible but im trying to tell myself this is because im worrying about my head....vicious circle Let me know how you get on with your appointment good luck carol x |
