That's an entirely normal physiological reaction. Alcohol summarily has a hypotensive effect and when lying down, it compounds the circumstances. The heart responds by increasing cardiac force and rate in order to compensate.

thnks rlr. would it be normal to get palps near ovulation and afterwards???

indeed hormonal changes during the menstural cycle induce stress upon the body. Increased stress can increase the potential for palpitations of this type to occur.

Okay, now something like that is going to be entirely impossible for me to evaluate since I haven't the advantage of direct contact. We can't extend into diagnostics of this type over the internet. I can't tell you what might be taking place, but it doesn't sound to me to represent anything of concern.

If it continues to concern you, then by all means seek a direct evaluation from your doctor.

Emma, I get that under my left armpit...it is also often sore and if I press there, it brings on a palp. I cannot lean on my elbow on the sofa with that part of me resting on the arm of the sofa.

While it is awful, it also fascinates me in that I wonder what it is and why it sets off palps

Well, I'm constrained to point out that you are thinking irrationally if you believe that you're heart is unable to "keep up" through exertion or exercise.

You're attempting to diagnose yourself based upon what you are sensing and in the absence of the requisite medical background and training. That's a bad combination. And to state that you're not anxious would be somewhat inaccurate since the concern is prompting you to seek information on this forum. If you weren't anxious about the circumstances, you'd be going busily about your life otherwise.

There's nothing wrong with your heart and sufficient alcohol intake, ie a bottle of wine, is definitely capable of producing benign palpitations.

If enough alcohol is consumed it can sometimes produce atrial fibrillation, which in one specific context is known as holiday heart, named so due to the fact that many people consume a good deal of alcohol during the holiday season.

You'll be fine.

Best regards and Good Health
