Title: RLR I need some medical advice!! Post by boringdanielle on Dec 27th, 2010, 7:26am Last night I layed down to go to sleep, in starts the ectopics I flipped and I flopped. Then I start getting hot and sweaty, tingly in the legs and feeling for lack of a better word woosy. I got up out of bed and went downstairs to my husband to ask him to calm me down. Then my heart starting racing. After about a hour it passed, but I did not sleep all night b/c I was sure my heart was going to stop and die. This is terrible. My question is can ectopics cause all of this havoc? I could deal with the ectopics but the other stuff is just as bad. Do you think it is something more serious? All I have had as far as testing is a few EKGs, but is that enough? I am just at a loss. I know I have posted so much on here, but he feedback is awesome!! Thanks in advance for any info, you all are great! :) |

Title: Re: RLR I need some medical advice!! Post by AbbyH on Dec 27th, 2010, 9:41am Sounds to me like you had a panic attack. You just decribed one perfectly. The tingling, sweating, racing heart. I've had them for 10 years, mine came before the ectopics. Your just fine. If it happens again and you want to be sure it's panic and not something more sinister go to an emergency clinic. But from what you describe, I'm 99% sure it was a panic attack brought on by stress of the ectopics. |
Title: Re: RLR I need some medical advice!! Post by boringdanielle on Dec 27th, 2010, 10:10am So that is what your panic attacks feel like? I had a few of these before the ectopics also in the past few months. 10 years how do you deal? I am 36 and feel like a hypochondriac. I have never had probs like this in the past. Thanks for the reply! |
Title: Re: RLR I need some medical advice!! Post by AbbyH on Dec 27th, 2010, 10:54am Yes, that sounds exactly what I feel like when I have one. 10 years is a long time to have them, but once you get used to it and know whats happening to your body, they pass ALOT faster and are not as intense. I can easily tell myself to calm down it's just a panic attack rather than saying "OH MY GOD GUNNA DIE!!" That way you don't get into the fear-adrenaline-fear cycle. I used to have ones that went on for hours, because my heart would pound, then I would get scared, releasing more adrenaline causing the attack to go on and on. So best thing you can do is relax, distract yourself as much as you can. Easier said than done, I know how unatural it feels. But it wont kill you I promise ;) Let me know how you do |
Title: Re: RLR I need some medical advice!! Post by aks85 on Dec 27th, 2010, 12:26pm yeah I'm with Abby. sounds like a classic panic attack to me, I too have suffered with them in various forms for 10 years. the best things you can do is learn to calm yourself at the beginning of the episode and then get to the stressor that set this all into motion. for example, I was close to and dearly loved my grandmother. She passed.away suddenly in 2000 of a massive heart attack. 1-2 months later I began having palps then the panic attacks began. from That point on my heart was my focus of my fears. I haven't completely overcome my fear of my heart's condition, but I have significantly reduced my panic attacks to maybe 1 a year. |
Title: Re: RLR I need some medical advice!! Post by boringdanielle on Dec 27th, 2010, 2:06pm I was afraid the ectopics were causing all these other physical symptoms rather than a panic attack. I am so afraid my electrical part of the heart beating is messed up, not so much a blockage. I suppose that would have been detected by now somehow. I have had probably 3 EKGs in the past 9 months, I have not had a stress test or holter monitor. I would like to be reassured it is just anxiety/panic rather than heart related. Oh, I just need to calm down and quite THINKING about it!!lol I have had a few ectopics today but just kept doing my normal routine and distract myself. You guys are all awesome on here!! Love ya!! |
Title: Re: RLR I need some medical advice!! Post by AbbyH on Dec 27th, 2010, 4:43pm I know how ya feel Danielle, trust me. But no nothing is wrong with your heart hun. I've finally over come my fear of the ectopics and it has helped me loads with dealing with my panic attacks. Next time your ectopics get going, just blow them off as a hiccup because thats all they really are. The more you lose the fear and worry that comes with them the less you will have. If it makes you feel any better, I myself have only had 2 EKG's which were normal. It did not even catch and ectopic, but my Doc told me not to worry about them and that they are only extra heart beats. He said you would be suprised at the amount of people he sees with the same complaint. He did not feel I need further testing. The world we live in now days is stressfull. So yes just keep relaxing and not thinking so much about it. :D Do you drink caffine? My Doc demaned I stopped LOL. I did and to be honest (as much as I miss my coffee) it has helped alot. The one day I did slip up and have tea, I had ectopics for 4 hours every 3 minutes. Also stay hydrated with water, that hepls too. I |

Wow I'm sorry for your loss. I can relate, my Grandmother-in law (I guess you would say) Died in 2009 of a sudden heart attack, and not long (about 1-2 months also)after my panic attacks and ectopics showed back up after being dormant for 4 years. I've always had a fear of something being wrong with my heart and I think all the stress just took a toll on me. |
