Title: RLR Chest Pain Post by AbbyH on Dec 31st, 2010, 12:50pm Hi RLR and Happy New Year! I've been having minimal palps still luckily since I have made sure to be drinking milk everyday. And I'm still doing good as far as dealing with them goes. I have however been experiencing chest pain for prolonged amounts of time mostly after laying down. I do not by any means feel it is heart pain because well, I have no ther symptoms other than an annoying dull ache and a slight burining I think. The location is where my stomach meets the breast bone, it does raidiate pretty close to my neck and will raidiate a bit to the right and left side. Does this sound like acid reflux? Milks does seems ot settle it. I have not tried anti acids yet. The more I dwell on it the worse it gets. This is the worst thing about anxoety disorder, I swear to you I can imagine things. I worry one day it will be a medical emergency and I wont know if its just my mind playing trick on me. In any case, propbably something I sjould get looked at because if it is acid reflux, it is probably causing my palps. Would love your input. Abby |
Title: Re: RLR Chest Pain Post by RLR on Dec 31st, 2010, 3:18pm Okay, this has all the characteristics of indigestion and/or reflux. It is quite true that people with anxiety cannot ignore symptoms, for they firmly believe that the moment they do, it will be the one time when it's real. This simply isn't within the realm of possibility and you don't have benign symptoms one day and pathological ones the next. If these symptoms persist more than 72 hours, then I would recommend that you follow up with your doctor, but in the meantime you can use over-the-counter products to ease your discomfort. Proton pump inhibitors work very well to reduce excess acid, but you must take them on an empty stomach at least 45 minutes or so before consuming a meal. I would also need for you to tell me what, if any, medications you are taking at present. You need to set aside fears about pectoral angina as a prelude to a heart attack. It simply doesn't work that way and your letting your fears run away with you. I realize that we're about to ring in the New Year, but you should consider limiting your alcohol intake and eat lightly if you are experiencing indigestion. You'll be fine. Again, monitor your symptoms and if they become significantly worse or persist more than 72 hours, then contact your primary care physician or specialist. The over-the-counter medications will be fine to take in order to gain relief. Best regards and Good Health |
Title: Re: RLR Chest Pain Post by AbbyH on Dec 31st, 2010, 6:51pm Thank you for the speedy reply. I'm feeling much better. the pain started to fade not long after I posted. I have been feeling pretty under the weather latley too, and had been eating a lot of acidy stuff. Orange juice, tomato soup. Not much solids. So I'm assuming thats what cause the flare up. Odd how it really seems to hit me the worst first thing in the morning. Guessing from laying down and the acid flowing upwards lol. This has been bothering me on and off for a while, and I was chalking it up to anxiety. So glad to hear you agree about the acid, I'm not on any medications at all so I will try what you suggested when it acts up. The pain does get pretty intense sometimes so I'm hoping that helps. Oh and no drinking for me, I have not Drank since May 31st 2010, my first palp attack. I'm sure I could hadle a bit of alcohol fine and am not so much worried about its effects on my palps anymore. I just decided why bother ;) Happy New Year!! |
