Title: Basically Same Old Question But problem is worse!
Post by Michael on Dec 12th, 2011, 1:48am

RLR, I couldnt find my orginal thread but my problem is growing worse by the day and im not sure what to do. I was hopitalized because of bad reaction to grugs I was given in Drs office. One was a maximum dose of steroid a very strong one, also a very strong antibotic and she changed a beta blocker ,gave me an a different family of anti. anxiety med and I was in withdrawal from librium. She also prescribed cardura 3 mg for urine flow and these were all introduced to my system right away. I had a sore throat that was making me feel bad and just feeling poorly. I did not know I was allergic to steroids and sulfides. That night my heart went to 160 beats a minute and I could feel my blood pressure rising. I went to the E R and my bp was 187/110 and heart rate was 120 but stabelized to 107 . The E R drs never listened to my story of the new meds and did a chest xray on me expecting to find a pulmanary embolism. They did not but found an incidental adrenal anoma on my kidney which they thought I might have pheocromcytoma and I was in pheo crisis. They also found a mass on my kidney. They did five ct scans with contrast from my head to my feet, two ultrasounds on my kidney and they put me on their heaet floor where your heart is on EKG and blood pressure is monitored around the clock. They monitored my heart around the clock for five days gave me very stong blood pressure meds for four days untill they got my blood pressure down and told me that they saw nothing during that time to indicate a heart problem although my heaet felt several times like it was going to stop and it skipped, they told me they didnt see anything abnormal. They did and angiogram ct ,my arteries are clear, my cholesterol is good,my trglicerides are good. I dont have diabeties and my arteries are clear and my blood work showed low sodium levels which they gave me a saline solution and got them back to normal but my red blood cells looked like I had an infection but the cleared up after a few more days of antibotics. I was discharged and told to see a urologist that proceeded to tell me they needed to take my adrenal gland out and that I had a suspicious mass in my kidney i.5 cm . He scheduled me for a mri and talked about sending me to a team of surgeons to take my kidney and adrenal gland out. I proceeded to tell my dr I wasnt doing nothing of the kind until I saw an endocrologist that ran additional test that came to a conclusion that I did not have pheo, cushings ,or any other adrenal issue besides the anoma .. Then my dr went wacky and told me that I had to see the urologist because we wasted two months on the kidney thing. This upset me. My dr still has me on 75 mg of metrepolol a day also flomax that is an alpha blocker and works a little to help me urinate but not really enough. I complained to deaf ears. I am also taking 60 mg of Lorsatan and nifedipine 60 mg a day . With all this especially the metrepolol my heart rate should be low but isnt. When resting its about 75 to 85 and when up walking around there are days I can walk hard and fast without getting over 90 beats but most days just walking around my heart starts beating fast, I feel a pressure in my chest and get a little short of breath and can feel my heartbeat go into my skipping and then going into a rythem I even felt in the hospital but was ignored . My heart beat no matter how fast its beating goes into a very strange rhythem like its going to stop ,it beats thump, thump, thump, thump, thump, thump, very slowly. I have to run in and sit down and try to drink something that makes me burp. Sometimes it clears fast other times it takes 10 minutes to go back to normal rhythem. It seems this is happening more and more everyday. I went to the drs office one day and the nurse took my blood pressure 120/73 but she said my heaetbeat was 108. She told the dr and he came in and held both wrist at the oulse and said I dont believe your heart is beating 108.He listened to it and talked a bit kisten to my complaints about the meds side effects and then sent me on my way saying the benefits outweighed the risk.Since then he has found out from the endocrologist found I had nothing wrong in the adrenal gland besides a benighn anoma so why is he keeping me on such high doses of these meds. He said before they were to protect me against hypertensive crisis but has sine found that my blood pressure was up that night in the E R because of drug reaction. He found this out from the endocrologist that check my records at the hospital and did more test and found I didnt have a problem in that area. She also said that my testeterone levels were great! My worries is that I read the meds im taking may cause interactions between them and if you dont have heaet trouble they can cause heart troule ,like conjestive heart failure or heart block etc. Im worried that im being over medicated but then I wonder if maybe whatever is in my kidney is causing my heart to go into abnormal rythem at certain speeds or is there a problem with the kidney that is causinfpg gas on the vagus nerve or I just dont know what to thinkl I was starting to have this chest pressure and skipping before the hospital but its ten times worse now at random times yet the drs seem to think my heart and cardio system is in good shape. I have read about all the meds im taking and they are given for heart attack victims, people with angina etc which they are suppose to be gold standard but I dont have any of that so why am I being given these? Also is it possible that whatever is in my kidney could cause these attacks? They seem to come on with positional changes.Do you think my dr thinks now the kidney might cause mr hypertensive crisis and that is why I still am having to take the meds? This all is really worrying me. Im afraid to go anywhere or do anything because of the weird skipping. Please help?

Okay Michael, I've studied your posting thoroughly with attention to each aspect of the manifestations you describe and I see nothing contained here that constitutes anything other than variability of normal, healthy human physiology. You have to understand that your body is not a static enterprise, but rather extremely dynamic through the course of every 24 hour period.

I am unable to tell you whether the mass nephrotic mass, or cyst on your kidney, is symptomatic but in the same breath will tell you that such cysts are entirely common and are often found incidental to imaging studies for other purposes. I would also be suspicious that the adrenal lobe is involved by a pheochromocytoma, which is quite rare and would have been expressing symptoms far prior to this point in your life. As for scheduling surgery, I would submit that such a contemplation is far too premature and further studies and a second opinion would be advised in all such instances.

A limited response to certain medications is entirely common and I see nothing to suggest any late or residual effects, which frankly does not occur once therapy is terminated. Your isolated episodes regarding blood pressure and heart rate are unremarkable by comparison to countless other patients who have experienced similar events and the values indicated are not life-threatening at all.

My opinion is that anxiety is responsible for the variability being demonstrated in your physiology and throughout the history of our discussions, you remain convinced that something serious is medically wrong with you, a premise that I steadfastly disagree with you about and have yet to see any substantive evidence to support your contention.

We can certainly discuss the matter further, but at this point I see nothing here that would produce little more than a lengthy yawn if I were presented with your case. There is simply nothing to suggest that you are actually ill or that your health is at risk.

Best regards and Good Health
