Title: ectopic focus Post by lmg83brown on Jan 27th, 2012, 11:21am Hi RLR, I have a quick question regarding Ectopic Focus. Now I understand ectopic focus focus is an excitable group of cells that causes a premature heart beat outside the normally functioning SA node of the human heart. It is caused by Increased local parasympathetic nervous system activity, and also Elevated sympathetic nervous system output. Now is this still benign vagus nerve activity? Please explain whan causes ectopic foci and there benign nature. I recently had a holtor monitor which revealed that I get Pac's when my heartrate is high, and then pvc's when my heartrate is coming down. Could my anxiety and adrenaline have cause my hearts cells to become irritable? Ectopic focus ectopics originate inside the heart, but you always refer to outside the heart. Thank you |
Title: Re: ectopic focus Post by Typer on Feb 4th, 2012, 10:46am Interesting question. I've not heard that term before -is this to do with the electrical pathways (is that the term?) in the heart, rather than vagus nerve stimulated ectopics. My understanding of mine via RLR is that the whole of the nervous system is involved. I think I did not misunderstand that there can be other symptoms some people get as I did, being light headed and feeling woozy, along with stomach and even bowel issues. Some may only get the palpitations or have symptoms that are not so obvious as heart, which of course s hard to miss. Mine seem to relate to wind, bending and other movement, as well as stress and tension. Anyway, I shall look for RLR's answer to your question so may understand what "ectopic focus" is. |
