Title: Palpitations and Fever
Post by Seabass17 on Apr 8th, 2013, 11:05am

I usually get about 3-5 palpitations a day. Mostly at night because of my stomach bloating. However, yesterday I had a fever of 101 and had skipped beats all day. Has anyone else experienced an increase of skipped beats during a high fever?

Hi Seabass17

I usually get quite a few palpitations (and missing beats) every day, mainly when resting.  I've had a heavy cold for the last three days, though no fever but I've spent most of the time in bed feeling quite rough.  My palps have increased to on and off all day but I put it down to the fact that I've been lying down so much counting them!  Also, I've been breathing more through my mouth as my nose has been blocked so I've been swallowing air which is a trigger for my palps.

Hope you get better soon.

Fever will increase heart rate and respiration, which could cause more palpitations. Just being sick would cause the body to be run down and tired, resulting in more sensitive and reactive nerves.

Definitely notice lots more ectopic beats than usual when I am running a temperature / got a virus. It'll go back to your usual when you are feeling better. Get well soon  :)

What was really weird is the palpitations stopped as soon as the fever broke. Feeling better now thanks!
