Title: My dad - in Loving Memory!!
Post by angiebaby on Sep 22nd, 2007, 5:28am

My mum has asked me to write something about my dad for the priest to read out at the funeral on Friday, so this is what i have come up with.

WHEN ASKED TO SPEAK ABOUT MY DAD
I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY
SO MANY THINGS TO REMIND ME
IN EACH AND EVERY DAY.
I MISS THE WAY HE MADE US LAUGH
THE FACES AND THE FUN
A STORY FOR EVERY OCCASION
SOMETHING SAID OR DONE.
A SILLY SONG OR SILLY DANCE
THE LEG THAT WOBBLED AND SHOOK
3 TON OF SOOT COMING OVER
THE GIGGLES AND THE LOOKS.
A MORE KIND AND GENEROUS MAN LIKE HIM
YOU COULDN'T HOPE TO MEET
NO MATTER WHERE HE WOULD GO
FRIENDS HE WOULD GREET.
HE LOVED TO GO TO BOOTSALES
AND ALL THE SHOPS AND FAYRES
BRINGING TREASURES BACK A PLENTY
FOR US AND HIS GRANDCHILDREN TO SHARE.
HIS GARDEN WAS HIS PRIDE AND JOY
AND MOTORBIKE HIS PLEASURE
BUT ALL THE TIME WE SPENT WITH DAD
WE WILL ALL CERTAINLY TREASURE.
A HUSBAND, FATHER, GRANDFATHER
ALL HIS LIFE HE WORKED
HOW WERE WE TO KNOW
ROUND THE CORNER SADNESS LURKED.
NO MATTER WHAT WE SAY OR DO
ALL THE PAIN THAT MAKES US SAD
WE CAN NEVER BRING HIM BACK
BUT HE WILL ALWAYS BE MY DAD!!

Judging by your words, his job was well done. My deepest sympathy and a prayer.

That's lovely. Very personal and original. The funeral will be very difficult, but I know that once my mum's funeral was over I started to feel a bit better. Best wishes.

Thinking of you on Friday. Hope you are able to have a fitting celebration of your dad's life and all he meant to you!
