Can palpitations cause damage to your arteries or cause plaque to rupture in your arteries?

There are no deleterious effects associated with the presence of vagus nerve-induced palpitation events. You have to think of these specific palpitation events as more associated with a simple muscle twitch than any type of cardiac pathology. Your heart is merely responding to wayward nerve impulses which access the heart muscle tissues via the vagus nerve. The events are not a sign that the heart is experiencing difficulty at all.

Palpitations of this type are also incapable of any abnormal strain or wear on the heart muscle as well. They are in all instances, completely benign.
