Title: Palpitations and Digestive Issues
Post by tfield on Apr 28th, 2013, 7:54am

Hello Everyone!
I am not really new here, I am a long time member but couldn't remember by old username since I haven't been here in so long. Anyway, I have been really fortunate the last couple of years to be virtually palpitation free. I think being almost through menopause has really helped. But the last couple of weeks the palps have returned. Not a lot of them, just a few a day, but they have me scared again. The seem to occur when my stomach is too empty, or too full, or when I have to have a BM or have gas. I recently finished a course of antibiotics for a urinary tract infection, and after I finished the medication I started to have heartburn daily, and this is when the palps started and seems to coincide with my disgestive issues. I am 57 years old and have been having palps off and on since I was 20. Just need some reassurance folks. Thanks.

Mine are always associated with stomach issues, mostly gas moving up. Since the problem is originating in the stomach and the palpitations are a reactive symptom of the digestive issues, I wouldn't worry about them.

Antibiotics disrupt the equilibrium of the gut flora. I would get on a large dose of a good probiotic for at least 30 days, then go down to a maintenance dose. Fermented foods such as sauerkraut (raw, unpasteurized (I make my own)) are even better. And probiotics help keep the urinary tract healthy as well.

I'm really interested in this subject since my palps almost always come with gas.

I'd like to know if you (any of you) feel a kind of sucking in your chest that takes your breath away for just a few seconds.  My thyroid was ablated 2 years ago and the palps have slowed down, but I still get this scary feeling in the middle of my chest.  I've been thru all the heart tests and the cardio says these are ectopics.  I'm really not up on all the jargon.  I don't know a PVC from ABC!!
