Burning
Jun 21st, 2007, 7:02am

Hi

On my way home today as I was about to turn into a road, a taxi pulled out of the junction and nearly hit me in the side right by my door, instantly I had this burning right in the area I assume my heart is and obviously my heart started to pound but I think it went a little weird.

Is this a normal reaction?  What would have caused the burning?

Thank you

Sounds like an adrenaline rush to me. It sometimes gets me in different ways. Sometimes I feel it in the pit of my stomach, sometimes in my heart area, sometimes it is like heat in my arms, and sometimes like a dizzy turn in my head.

I am sure that is what it will have been. Adrenaline causes blood flow to increase to some areas and rush from others so I suppose that explains it. It is the fight or flight reflex thing - so blood flow increases to your arms and legs for running (flight) or to your arms (fighting!) It goes away from your stomach - not particularly needed for digestion at that time (so you can feel sick or like going to the toilet).

Faced with a near-accident as you did, it is normal reaction and helpful in case you had needed to take action because it supposedly would help our reaction times - as it heightens our alertness too. have you ever noticed when you are anxious that you feel jittery and any little movement will make you wonder - oh what's that? Adrenaline overload.

Hey - don't I sound like the rational one today? what a joke - I am having a hideous day of unexplained anxiety and nausea that won't go away and no discernible trigger other than a weird sensation of my heart not feeling right for two days.

Hi Kathryn,
sorry to hear about your near miss.
Just wanted to say that I have loads of burning type sensations & now I just put it down to adrenaline & over-sensitised nerves.
As Beadbabe says in this situation you're on red alert. I often think I can almost 'feel' the adrenaline being released! When you have anxiety all your normal reactions are exaggerated as Claire Weekes explains in her books.
Hope you feel OK now, Rescue Remedy is always good after this kind of event!
Main thing is you're OK!

Thanks

Hope you start to feel better soon beadbabe, I get the unexplained nervousness and anxiety, normal a week or two before my period or even during.

Thanks Steffie aswell.

I was a little shock up, even though nothing happened, which I was surprised about really, I suppose it was a little unexpected (which is a silly thing to say when it comes to driving) as the guy had seen me.
