Worse with age
Jul 02nd, 2007, 3:01am

Now that I have had this horrible ectopic heart rythm and palpitations for nearly a year, I suppose I have to get used to it never going away. But horrifyingly I have read that ectopics get more frequent with age... is this true? How am I going to manage that. If I have a run every 30 seconds and that gets more frequent as I get older, I am not even going to have a regular heartbeat. I'm only 38 now, so how much worse can it get?

I don't think I am ever going to get used to the ectopics as they cause such a strong sensation in my chest and stomach, and sometimes in my throat. And when they are frequent they make me dizzy.

Actually, your information source on that subject is incorrect. Benign palpitations of the type you are experiencing typically decrease with age. I believe you may be confusing this with the onset of arrhythmias of a more sinister origin, which do tend to increase with age.

There is nothing about your particular condition that will increase with age. Your symptoms are due to an underlying anxiety disorder and not the consequence of a heart problem of any type. If you are able to identify the underlying cause for your anxiety and ways to manage it, then the palpitations will correspondingly decrease. This is not subjective comment, but rather medical fact and is demonstrated every day within the medical environment for many folks.

HI RLR
that is great news. I am much 'heartened' to hear your comments on this!
Yes, maybe they were referring to something else - I don't remember where I read it now.
Thanks for the info
