Jul 06th, 2007, 6:25am

Hi
I have not posted for a while as i have been doing quite well.  My missed beats are down to about two to three a day and i mostly just ignore them and just carry on.  However today i was having a really nice day with my freind shopping and we had some lunch about half an hour later my heart just went into a fluttering sensation not really a beat at all which stopped me in my tracks and i felt really ill   i carried on but this really put me on edge  why this?
i have been doing so well now i feel worried Sad
thanks  carol

Hi Carol,

Firstly great news you have been doing better lately Smiley

Secondly, I dont have any more answers than you probably already know, but what I will say is each day is different, just because you have a little setback today doesnt mean tommorow isnt going to be great.

Ignore the bad moments that are relatively short and concentrate on the good times of the day when Palps are not there.

Dont know if that helps, but stick in there  Grin

Nothing to be worried about at all, Carol. It's very common for people predisposed to benign palpitations to experience what we term a "run" of them now and again. It can cause mild hypotension and make you feel both light-headed and nauseated, sometimes even experiencing a cold sweat. This is most common after a meal that has potentially caused air to be trapped in the stomach or intestines in such a manner that it causes vagal nerve stimulation. Always remember that the palpitations are not originating from within the heart, but rather merely a consequence of Vagus nerve stimuation. So to worry that it's your heart for any reason is invalid. Your heart is as healthy as can be. A few quick things to remember about eating out for folks with the problem; always eat light and take extra time. Drink most liquids after rather than during the meal and lastly, take a little extra time after the meal is consumed. This process will help to reduce chances of it happening again. In any event, the palpitations will never, ever hurt you in any manner nor cause you to have a cardiac event of any type.

Take a breath and relax. You're going to be just fine. I'll stake over 40 years of professional experience on it.

Best regards and Good Health
