surges?
Jul 08th, 2007, 12:23pm

Does anyone else notice surges in heart beats?  Let me explain a little more.  It is very hard to verbalize but i was in the kitchen cooking the tea and bent down to do something and then when i stood up i noticed that my heart had started to go very fast.  Then it settled down again.  I have had this before but i was just wondering if anyone else had this.  Also it is like the feeling affects your stomach too.  I have had a large tea and am feeling 'full' but it feels like it is also affecting the top of my stomach, right inbetween my chest, top of my stomach i suppose.  Like i said it is hard to explain.  So i'm feeling full and a little breathless really, i can breathe but it sometimes feels as though i am struggling and if i take too much time to breathe out i won't be able to breathe again.  I know that i have anxiety and this could be associated with that, but i know that my heart is going fast as i've just eaten and if i do anything it will go faster, that makes sense but when i do do something or move or bend down it feels like my heart surges and goes very fast for a bit, i rub my stomach and try to take my mind off it and when i sit down it goes off i think.  But i can feel it surge also when i speak and if i sing then it does it then too.  It does scare me because when i speak, or shout, to the kids then i feel it and it feels like i go a bit dizzy with it too.  Maybe it's just me and maybe it's anxiety i don't know, just wondered if anyone else got this too.x

HI
Yes, I also get this. bending down, crouching, getting up, running upstairs, having a full tum after a meal or a cup of tea. Any of this can set me off. I can't say I have any digestive problems though. But any of these things seem to aggravate my heart rythm.

Okay, everyone who experiences this phenomenon is going to have to realize that it's an entirely normal physiological process.

When you alter the effects of gravity upon different areas of the body, particularly the head, it causes mild changes in blood pressure and volume exchange. In other words, if you bend over and then suddenly stand up straight, you are overcoming the ability of the blood vessels to maintain blood above the neck at it's usual level. The heart must compensate for this change in order to maintain perfusion, which is important to keep you from fainting. Cardiac force and increased heart rate are two methods that the body uses to quickly restore things to normal.

As a former combat pilot, I can safely tell you that I've certainly experienced my share of the effects of gravity through hi-G aerial maneuvers and it's exactly why we wore G-harnesses in order to compensate by pressuring certain areas of the body to help maintain blood above the neck.

Lastly, just because you notice something different, you can't automatically conclude that it's something abnormal. The body's physiology is not a static process by any means and must dynamically respond to changes relative to the actions by the individual affected and environmental variations.

You're fine. Relax and try and be a little less vigilent. Your body knows what to do, how to do it and certainly when to do it without any concious involvement on your behalf. It's not going to suddenly let you down.

Best regards and Good Health

Thankyou very much for your welcomed replies.  I feel a lot better now and will try and respond in future with, ok, it's normal and it will pass.  It is difficult though when it starts.  But i will do my very best.
I am trying very hard.  Thanks again.x
