I feel i cant cope anymore!
Aug 17th, 2007, 2:07am

Hi   Having these missed beats for a year i thought at last i was on top of them going out doing normal things just ignoring them.   Now for the last month i have had these flutters that just come out of nowhere usually when im out having a good time!  They really feel like your heart has stopped beating for a few seconds then goes all irregular and all i want to do is cry i feel why is this happening when i was doing so well.  All my old worries have come back i keep thinking they have missed something ?  Have i left it too late to loose my weight im doing great on the weight loss but has being overweight  all my life affected my heart?   Is my prominent right ventricle really something they think i was just born with?  I just cant cope with this
My doctor who listens to me has just left and the councellor i saw didnt know anything about missed beats and fell asleep during the session!!   I dont know what to do anymore   carol Sad

Hi Carol,

You were doing so well, try and get to that place again if you can.  These flutters are just another type of ectopic as far as I can tell, but if it makes you feel better why not ask for another monitor test so it can put your mind at rest?  Could it be adrenaline if it happens mostly when your having a good time, although I dont want to presume, perhaps RLR can shed more light on that possibility?

I think your doing superbly with your weight loss, from what you have indicated.  And Im sure its 'never too late' to get fit and lose weight etc etc, keep it up, im sure everyone here is 100% behind you  Smiley

Could you possibly be stressed/anxious about the change with your doctor, something like that, when someone you trust leaves and you feel your not getting understanding (did he/she really fall asleep  Shocked) from thier replacement it could make you pretty anxious and then start the palps again.

Above all try and keep smiling if you can and know were all here if you need to vent.

Hi Cazza
I relate to how you feel. Please keep talking and accepting our support!
Your counsellor sounds like he/she ought to be struck off from practising. You should report this.

Anyway, my psychotherapist knows a lot about palpitations (not ectopics) but I understand we are to think of them as the same thing really. And she told me that rather unfortunately you can expect an increase in palpitations when you are enjoying something or excited about something in a good way, rather than nerves. In fact, for example, you might think you are nervous about going on holiday, but you would get the same feelings if you were excited about it. ie. churning tummy, and for those of us with ectopics/palpitations the increased possibility and occurrence of palpitations. The answer she joked was to never get worried or enjoy anything ever again! So they are part of life for us sensitive types.

It explained for me why I get them sometimes when I am thinking that actually I wasn't anxious at all, I was just enjoying myself - eg. on holiday, on my birthday, one time at a New Year's Day party (this was really bad and really shook me up - such bad palps).

Anyway hope this helps. It's not very scientific explanation but just a kind of reality that really sucks for lots of us on here.

Hi Carol,

Although difficult, my encouragement here is to refrain from allowing your fears to overcome you. As I've mentioned elsewhere on the forum, increased anxiety can certainly increase the underlying source of worry, in this case palpitations and fear of heart disease.

The over-riding fear by folks with anxiety is that something has been missed. This is because you are unable to release the perception that your physical symptoms are the direct consequence of heart disease or other physical malady.

Being overweight has not caused your heart to be too tired or worn out to serve you later in life. This too, is a common misconception.

Mild ventricular hypertrophy is as common as the ordinary table napkin and I've seen thousands of patients with this feature and I don't even consider it remarkable.

As for your therapist, it's not been out of the ordinary for me to walk up and smartly kick the bottom side of someone's chair who hasn't the courtesy to remain professional by demonstrating somnelescence. There are both good and bad therapists out there, so don't let your frustrations keep you from searching out better prospects.

Things will improve.

Best regards and Good Health

Hi Cazza,
I know just how you feel-I feel like I can't cope with things either-see my post!
I have had these short bursts of irregular, chaotic rhythm too. They only last afew seconds-no more than 10 but I really find them hard to cope with. I was lying in bed watching TV last night & suddenly it just went completely out of rhythm for afew seconds, it is very unnerving. I have been told by my doctor, & the cardio seemed to confirm it today, that I'm having brief episodes of A fib. I've been having this on & off for about 3 years but now he wants me to take junior dose aspirin for it.
Not saying this is what you have just wanted you to know that I know how you feel.
I have always suffered from anxiety, especially health anxiety & these things just make it even worse. It'sa bit chicken or egg though isn't it?!
Hope you're feeling better today.
Please know that I understand exactly how you feel about this-sending you hugs!!
love Seffie xx

Wow, how good are you, biking!!!  I am too scared to do any exercise but i would love to lose some weight.  Just at the moment i am too chicken to do anything about it as my heart rate increases and i get more ectopics, both of which frighten me and cause more anxiety and more palpatations and more ectopics = vicious cirlce!!
I wish i was as brave as you!!
Well done.xx
