Chest Muscles

Hi

Quick question, I've been putting our new gas bar-be-que together and I did it ok, then it come to putting the gas hose on the metal nosel and it was really tight, it took me a good 5 minutes to get it 3/4 of the way!  I was knealing bending over as the nosel was under the bar-be-que, I had a couple of missed or strange beats but I carried on but i kept doing it so I stopped because my heart felt like it was going funny, when I checked my pulse it didn't miss a beat, but everytime I breathed in it didn't do as strong beat if that make sense, but I could feel it in my chest, it did it quite a bit and I sat and called my husband then I burped.

I get this happen quite a bit and missed beats if I'm using or over straining my arm and chest muscles, why is that?

Thanks

The combination of body position and the presence of indigestion is ideal for palpitations to occur through vagus nerve stimulation.

Remember that the strain you refer to is not associated with the palpitations in the sense that it's not challenging the heart in any manner whatsoever. Your activity is simply causing vagus nerve stimulation and superimposition of signals upon the normal sinus rhythm of the heart.

Whenever you're working on projects, you should try and put these issues at your advantage. In other words, instead of bending over, place the grill at a comfortable working height that doesn't place you in an awkward position.

As for any change in heart rate during respiration, this is entirely normal. As I've explained before, when you breathe in, the heart's rate is elevated slightly and when breathing out, it declines slightly. This is no indication of a problem whatsoever.

Hope you have fun with your now BBQ grill. Sounds like fun.

Best regards and Good Health

Hi Kath
I have big problems with this. Bending up and down causes big problems for me.
Tidying up toys all day long - ie picking up objects off the floor and general housework give me terrible palpitations. And unfortunately no way of avoiding this!
Interestingly when I was doing yoga I noticed that very specific positions triggered the palpitations. It could be fast racing heart or runs of ectopics.
I wish it would go away - but that is over a year now since it just started up one day.

Hi

Thank you,

I think it's a case of finding what thing make them worse and stop doing or eating that to reduce them, I think our attitude to them can help, for example on Saturday evening we went to my husbands cousins 21st, I didn't drink alcohol and I ate way before we went out so just snacked on a few bits as it was late, I danced with my husband and then picked up my youngest and danced with her, my heart felt a bit weird and kept doing it, so I put her down and found my husband, but a couple of years ago I would have let that spoil my whole evening! But last night I had a couple of strange beats and I let it get to me... But that is all my fault really as my heart felt a little racey and poundy before we went out, sitting in the car over there I realised all I'd had to drink was a couple of sips of blackcurrent and 1 cup of tea! and the weird beats on dancing were probably because I'd drunk too much juice and felt bloated!!! (Maybe)

Also I'm on my 18th day of my cycle, and have learnt to recognise that I get more around this time. Don't get me wrong they do still scare me and I do not always like to put that I'm doing better in case I jinx it  Undecided, but you should all try keeping a diary and after a while you will find triggers.

Hope you are all ok
