Rarely, if ever, can hypertension be sensed. That's why it's known as a silent disease. If you're referring to the area above the upper teeth as your top jaw, then what you are more than likely feeling is pressure from a sinus condition. The sinus passages are capable of enriching oxygen as you breathe in and blocked passages can cause lethargy and the "fuzzy" feeling, as well as light-headedness.

If over-the-counter preparations do not relieve symptoms, then it may be wise to visit with your primary care physician to make certain you don't have sinusitis or other condition requiring treatment.

Again, I'd stop worrying about blood pressure in this instance.

Well, based upon your description, TMJ is another consideration. If symptoms persist, notify your primary care physician to determine whether direct evaluation is necessary.

You'll be fine.

Hi if it will help, I suffer from TMJ and have done for many years - confirmed by the hospital. This condition can be associated with my sometimes stressed and nervous personality I have - hence the palpitations !!!

I tend to grind my teeth  when asleep, this caused by worry and stress, and this leads to TMJ and yes I get that heavy feeling in my upper jaws,  also in the ears and neck in fact TMJ can cause pain in a number of areas.

TMJ can be associated with other things as well but in my  instance it does cause the jaw problem   as far as the dizziness is concerned, when I got the feeling in the beginning I used to panic and that in itself can make you feel dizzy.

Well, if it's actually the case, a viral infection of this type typically lasts 7 to 10 days, but sometimes lingering symptoms can persist for another 5 to 10 days in some persons.

If you feel pressure in your face around your cheek bones and forehead, possibly even your teeth ,then I would be concerned whether you may have developed sinusitis. If the pressure is elsewhere, then it may possibly represent mere lingering symptoms from viral infection. If the pressure continues, a plain x-ray of your sinuses would reveal whether sinusitis is present. It's also possible to have otitis media (an inner ear inflammation), which can cause similar symptoms. It is primarily seen in children, but instances do occur in adults and usually follows some type of bacterial or viral infection of the upper respiratory system.

In any event, you shouldn't worry that this represents a mass or anything like that if such concern exists. The kind of response observed from such circumstances is entirely different than feeling pressure. It doesn't work like that. Most space-occupying masses interfere with brain tissue function and depending upon the precise location of the mass, patients begin to have seizures or can't talk or walk or demonstrate odd behavior, and pain is typically the last symptom among these features to appear. You stated that your doctor "looked behind your eyes" but I would be surprised if anything were to be abnormal in that regard. With masses or other issues that can affect the optic nerve, we typically see something known as a Marcus Gunn pupil, or a pupil that has a rather paradoxical effect when exposed to light by comparison to the normal eye. We can also see inflammation of the optic disk and other signs of possible neurological involvement, but as I said, this is not a concern for you.

If your symptoms persist beyond a total timframe of 2 weeks or grow worse in the interim, then by all means seek examination to determine whether post infection of your sinuses or inner ear inflammation may be present.

Best regards and Good Health

Sinus infections can sometimes be quite resistent and it can require certain antibiotics at times to gain therapeutic benefit. Drugs like Augmentin have broad-spectrum capabilities and work quite well.

My suggestion is that you seek out an otolaryngologist, more commonly known as an ENT or ear, nose & throat specialist. While a sinus infection can cause dizziness in some folks, there may likely be some inner ear involvement. It's definitely impossible for me to diagnose you over the internet and the practice of medicine over the airwaves in certainly a no-no. But my advice here is to seek out a specialist of the variety described. It can sometimes take several weeks of potent antibiotics to get sinusitis under control, so it's off to the doctor with you. Enough time has passed to warrant direct examination and re-evaluation. It's not a life-threatening condition, but needs to be promptly addressed.

Hi Cazza
Hope you can get this sorted out. It is horrible feeling light headed and dizzy all the time.
Try not to be concerned about it because it's usually nothing to worry about (apart from feeling awful).
What I want to say though (and although it may not be this at all) is that have you thought about how many of us have had dizzy ness all the time and been down the ENT route and there has been nothing to report other than a diagnosis of anxiety. This may be all it boils down to when you have seen the specialist (could take weeks or months as you say!). All my problems stem from dizzyness - neurologist and ent specialist seen and nothing to be bothering them. Diagnosis - anxiety. Well if I didn't have it before I do now - palpitations on top. It can't be coincidence that so many of us have had the same problems as well as our funny heart beats...
Try to enjoy your Christmas and not worry about the outcome of the horrible feelings. I have been there with constant dizzy feeling for months despite being told this is not actually possible. (IT IS!) By and large it is gone now, but comes back when I am tired or moving my eyes about a lot.
Whatever it is don't worry about it. It is most unlikely to be something to dread as dizzyness is compensated for by the brain eventually (I was told) even if you have menieres disease or a viral infection.
You just have to put up with feeling rotten but worry won't help as this also makes you dizzy on top of anything that might be wrong with you (if there is anything - I am not saying there is or isn't!)
Take care
And happy Christmas

Obviously it crosses my mind because i have palps all the time every day but to be honest for the last few months i have sort of accepted them and dont worry half as much.    This dizziness and lightheadedness has been with me over a month now and i have generally felt unwell too    but i will keep an open mind
thanks and merry xmas   carol x
