Again for RLR
Dec 19th, 2008, 6:10am

RLR,
I am back again looking for some reassurance about this dizziness or vertigo I 've been experiencing. It has been 17 days now, and while some days are better than others, I don't see much improvement. Is this something that could take a long time to resolve? I feel it is my inner ears, as I get a lot of popping in both of them especially at night. I am having vertigo frequently at night now when I roll over in bed. Most times when i am up, the vertigo feels like I am walking on a trampoline--just unsteadiness under my feet. But sometimes it feels like slow spinning from left to right. I finished 10 days of Amoxicillin and I was taking Benadryl but it seemed to cause somewhat blurry vision, so i stopped it. The earliest i can get in to see an ENT specialist is Monday. Until then, is there anything I can do to feel better? It is starting to scare me that something is really wrong with me since I don't seem to be improving. I do have bradycardia (resting hr of 52) since my ablation 5 years ago, but it has never caused dizziness and I don't feel like my heart is slower now. And I have had much fewer palps since this all started. I am really desperate for an answer to all of this. Any advice you could give me would be so appreciated.

Hi there
I know I am not rlr but read your posting and wondered if you also have been diagnosed with anxiety. If so, let me reassure you what you are describing is a very very common symtom with anxiety/stress and can be relentless. I had dizziness / vertigo symptoms for months and as my anxiety lessened so did the symptoms - head spinning in bed, feeling like I was on a boat all the time. I had all the tests mri, ent specialist etc. Nothing was found to be abnormal but was told that anxiety can upset your balance system. It does go away, as long as nothing physical is causing it. In fact the neurologist I saw told me the best way to make dizziness go away is to constantly challenge your balance system by moving around a lot and exercise, as then you will rehabilitate more quickly. Exercise also reduces stress so double-attack really. Not very nice though, eh?

I can demonstrate an exact event for you... was feeling fine the other day. My mum came over and unfortunately had some worrying news about my dad's health (he has an aneurysm and has to have an operation) and within minutes that old dizziness symptom was there again until I was able to calm down and not panic, and reassure myself that my dad is in good hands. Just told you that to show you how emotions can affect you dramaticallly.

Good luck with your tests - hope they come round quickly for you

Yeah, this is going on a bit too long but nothing to be frightened about at all. It's simply disturbing the vestibular system and the fact that the eustacian tubes sound as though they are restricted, makes it necessary to obtain a prescription for a decongestent. Your primary care physician can also prescribe something called antivert that will help with the dizziness until symptoms subside. There's not much you can do until your visit on Monday, but try and relax because this is not serious by any means.

Again, nothing to worry about here and this is not any type of major problem at all. Once symptoms subside, you be as good as new again.

Best regards and Good Health
