Tapering Ativan - RLR
Dec 31st, 2010, 7:47pm

This isn't really related to my tachycardia, though the reason I have been on ativan has been because of the panic/tachycardia that I have had.  I have pretty much gained back most of the weight I have lost and have been back at work for 7 months since I took a leave for a couple of months when my anxiety and weight loss was so intense.  The doctor feels that if I want to, I can taper off of my ativan and just use it prn.  I have been taking .25mg at 6 AM and .25mg at noon for many weeks now.  I have been on Ativan since April, took a higher dose (like 1 mg a day) for awhile, but that was a long time ago.  I am a little nervous about rebound/withdrawal, though the doctor and pharmacist said that I was on such a low dose that I shouldn't worry about it.  I was going to discontinue my noon dose for several days and then my 6 AM dose.  Then just use it prn.  Do you think this is ok for a taper?  I just don't know if I'm psychologically addicted to it or if there is physical addiction at that low dose.  Thanks for your help.

I'm not RLR LOL but I am tapering my zoloft. I've.gone down to. 25 a day and on days that I skip the dose my eyes are jumpy, I'm dizzy and slightly more anxious. I'm trying to figure out if I'm psychologically or physically dependent as well. but low doses have always worked for my anxiety so I don't know what that means  either

It's hard to know.  That is what I am wondering.  Am I physically addicted to this small amount or is it just that I'm psychologically dependent on it and I know that I have decreased the amount.  I always get nervous about withdrawal/rebound and that is why I'm asking RLR what he thinks.  From the information that I received from my doctor, that at this small dose I shouldn't have to worry about a rebound (like seizures or something like that).  One pharmacist said it should be fine, but then he said you never know which just really scared me.

Also - RLR - I noticed that my pulse rate is up there today just from doing some bending while putting some Christmas decorations away.  Could this be from the decrease in Ativan or am I just ruminating on it and thinking about it too much?
