new here - palpitations and lone afib
Jan 05th, 2011, 3:46pm

Hi there,

I am a 39 year old male and suffered with anxiety and palpitations for about 20 years now.  About 18 months ago, just after my daughter was born, it was a very stressful time and I was getting a lot of palpitations.
One night I was dehydrated, I ate a large meal late and had been drinking coffee like crazy for the last week.  I tried to ignore the palpitations and sleep but I was getting more and more anxoius and then bang.  It changed into a crazy fluttering sensation that wouldn't go away.

I went to the ER and found out I was in atrial fibrillation.  Before they could do anything I spontaneously converted.  Since then I have had 3 more episodes all preceded by palpitations.

I had all the tests done and my heart is 100% normal.  I don't know why I go into afib when things are really bad but other than that everything here applies to me.  It's definitely vagus nerve related and anxiety related.

I've been fine for a while now but for the last 3 days i've been having terrible palpitations when laying down to sleep and I can't seem to stop them.  Of course the more I worry about them the worse it gets.

Unfortunately, due to the fear of afib I can't just ignore them.

I have no idea what to do, any advice would be welcome.
