heart thuds
Jan 06th, 2011, 3:16am

hello,am new on here, for about a year i have been having palpatitions on and off ,this set off anxiety where i was constantly checking my blood pressure and pulse,i have been taking rampril 2.5 mg for about 10 years now,and my blood pressure sits roughly 120/75 give or take a little each way and my pulse is  60 to 65 resting(which sends my anxiety up when its 60 bpm)as i think thats low,i  ended up in the a and e back in march cos the palpatations scared me soo much, since then ive seen cardiologist and had numerous blood tests for thyroid, enzymes and whatever else they look for,4 ecgs, chest x ray and echo test, all were totally fine, the palps just scare me ,yesterday it was just the thud thud thud then stopped, but i could feel the anxiety build up,i did go check my blood pressure and pulse and they were 132/83 and pulse was 72 so that kinda calmed me down, wish i didnt get so scared ,I think this is a fantastic site  Smiley

"120/75 give or take a little each way and my pulse is  60 to 65"

But those figures are absolutely normal...

My rest heart rate is in the 40s; and it can be under 40 first thing in the morning. (I do a lot of running).

Your blood pressure and heart rate values are entirely within the normal range. Anything below 55 is technically considered bradycardia, meaning slow heart rate, but there are many althletes with heart rates which steadily remain in the 40s on the diastolic side with no troublesome effects.

Realize that both heart rate and blood pressure are dynamic, meaning that they change regularly throughout the day in response to variable demand by the body. Seeking a constant blood pressure or heart rate is expecting something that would actually be detrimental.

Nothing of your descriptions suggests the presence of an issue.

You'll be fine.

Cornishmaid - My father has high blood pressure, and got himself a home blood pressure monitoring kit.

He went absolutely bonkers with it. He was constantly taking his blood pressure (and, needless to say, he was getting wildly differing readings the whole time).

My mother finally had enough of it when he began taking the machine to bed with him, and she threw it in the dustbin.

He's been a lot calmer since. And he's still alive!  Smiley
