Now chest pains?! This is getting out of hand
Jan 24th, 2011, 10:01am

Saturday night and last night were really bad.

Saturday while siting in my recliner i got a sudden painful burning/sharp pain above both of my breasts when i breathed in. Then it was gone and I was fine.

Last night I was relaxing in a bath and reading a book. Out of the blue i got a pain on my left side an inch or 2 from center. And off I went. I went into a full on panic attack thinking I was having a heart attack.  Embarrassed it lasted 2 hours. The panic. Not the pain, the pain comes and goes when it feels like.

The pain feels like its deep, I can't pin point if its deep deep like organ deep or if its deep in the muscle. But it was a sudden sharp pain that kind of felt like it radiated up into the hollow of my throat. Kind of felt squeezing? it really is hard to explain.

Now I'm noticing the same pains in my right chest. In my side, in my back. But on top of that, I'm getting the pain in the hollow of my throat and it feels like it squeezes. Like its a skipped beat. But I notice no skip. I also feel like a sore throat is coming on in the area of the pain. As well as it feels like a lump or phlegm is in that area. Kind of feels like i want to cough too.

I have an appointment with my doc later this afternoon what was initially supposed to be for the back pain. But now I need to bring this up and I'm scared I DID or am going to have a heart attack.

I can tolerate and deal with the palps. The chest pain is NOT ok.  :'(

I'm not a doctor, so ignore this if you want (and RLR will no doubt correct me if I'm wrong).

But sharp, sudden pain that appears and then disappears quickly isn't normally how heart attack pain presents itself (it tends to be a crushing pain, like having an elephant sitting on you). Also pain that gets worse as you breathe in doesn't fit with heart attack pain (if you're having a heart attack, then it doesn't make any difference to the pain whether you breathe in and out).

Plus, if it were a heart attack, the chances are you'd have other symptoms.

Don't forget there are a lot of entirely benign - albeit annoying - reasons why we might experience pain (e.g., muscular, nerve, etc).

And I know it won't be any consolation, but I'm always having sharp pain in my chest region. It's muscular with me (my back is messed up from too much sport).

So I went to my appointment this afternoon. I told them my symptoms. And they scared the snot out of me by rushing to get an EKG.

So when they hooked me up my heart was 110.

None the less, my EKG was perfect other than the elevated heart rate. my BP was 126/96 but I was scared.

I asked him what he thought it was he said I have no idea, but likely muscular exasperated by anxiety. I asked him about my heart. He said he really REALLY doesn't think its my heart at all. But to be sure he's going to send me to a cardiologist for a stress echo.

I asked him if I should be worried about my heart at all for awhile. And he said he doesn't think so and if my stress echo comes back fine then I can put my heart fears to rest for a long time.

I felt great coming out of the office. I felt like a weight was taken off my shoulders. But now the pain is back and i'm trying to ignore it. I'm also getting palps, but its likely from me coming off the adrenaline rush right?
