Advise on heart palpitations
Dec 12th, 2011, 2:40am

Hello RLR & Everyone, many thanks in advance,
I am 52 years of age Male, and since this May have been suffering with neuralgia on my face & burning on limbs, for the last month I have also been suffering with racing or heavy beeting heart amost allways accompanied by loud white noise tinnitus,

I feel I may have a trapped nerve in my neck as I have also have some weakness / coldness in my right hand, I also have v. bad posture.

The tinitus and heart beat together last 50% of each day, and waking in the night is also troublesome, first my heart beat slows right down then it starts racing and wont slow to normal for a long while, sometimes the tinitus dissapears and I almost feel well.

I also find I sometimes have cold legs and numb lips instead.

I was initially prescribed Amitryptilene 25mg and took this for 4 days
this caused many strange symptoms maybe even palpitaions, also strange feeling when waking up of paralysis.

I was prescribed 10mg propronol tablets but the longer I took them the  more I needed, 30mg a day was enough to make me cold & breathless at night, I have stooped these but do not know what to do instead.

I tried asprin off my own bat this lessens the pain but theart rate was much faster, and I could not catch my breath.

After the worse nights I ache so much on my breastbone and under my arms, and my breast bone feels a bit hot.

I have had a heart monitor (before symptoms worsened) but am waitinng for analysys

Q0 I have decided I would really like a specialist to check for a trapped nerve and advice on treatments could you advise further

Q1 Is there any medication I should have for my safety
Q2 Could the tinnitus & possible trapped nerve be linked to my heart
Q3 Which sort of specialist should I ask to see
Q4 would an osteopath help with trapped nerve
Q5 Is asprin a bad idea
Q6 I dont know if deep breaths or tiny breaths is best to slow heart racing on waking up.
Q7 I am sure my doctor thinks it is > 80% related to anxiety while I think it is > 80% related to nerve interference of some kind, the more I think of it probobly the treatment is limited in either case,
Q8 I have had 3 sessions with an osteopath but paused this due to my
symptoms, do you know if osteopaths have success in such cases as mine, I have quite seriout curvature of upper spine; not side to side.

many thanks in advance, I am v. frigthened Nick.

Okay, I'm unable to provide you with medical "advice" because it is not prudent to do so within the context of an internet forum, which is actually available to provide more in-depth information about medical tests and conditions.

I would ask you to please await your test results and then post them for discussion. Until then, I see no information contained within your posting that would be cause for the fear you state is being encountered.

You're going to be okay and there is nothing looming with respect to your health. Again, once you have the results of your extended wear monitor, please post and we'll discuss.

As for Osteopathic manipulation techniques, I'm constrained to point out that I am a retired physician and trained strictly in allopathic or western medicine. I do not subscribe to chiropractic manipulation as a form of medical treatment.

Best regards,
