My story - my palps
Oct 26th, 2012, 4:28pm

Hi my name is Stacey and I have palpitations!!   Roll Eyes  And here's my story ...

I was diagnosed in 2007 with palpitations after doing a 48-hour holter monitor.  I was given Propranolol 10mg to take as needed but never really took it because I had very few attacks.  Well fast forward to 2010 and things got worse, don't know why.  No changes in anything (except that I had my first baby in 2009).  I started on the Propranolol at 10mg 3x day.  It seemed to help with the tachycardia I have but never has taken away the palps all together.  Fast forward again to 2012 and the palp's are at their worst.  I have had *many* EKG's, an echo, another holter monitor, a cardiac event monitor, and a stress test with echo.  According to the cardiologists (2 of them actually) my heart is very healthy and strong.  Yet I still gets palps all day and night (sometimes every 3rd beat for days!!).  Went back to my cardiologist this week and he switched my med to Metoprolol 25mg once a day.  Hoping this helps - I was nervous to switch because my blood pressure is normal (~115/70) so didn't want my blood pressure to drop too low and feel weird. The cardiologist said to try not to pay attention to the palps as focusing on them is just increasing my anxiety, thus increasing the palps (ahhhh!!!).

I was shocked when I found this site just for people like me!   Smiley  Who knew their were so many of us?  Sad actually.  I hate that others suffer like I do, day in and day out.  :'(  Hpwever it is good to know that these are benign and not actually damaging my heart ... but I sure wish I could make myself believe that, quit focusing on them so much, and move on with my life.  So I come here to ask ... How?  How do I do that?

I wish I had the answer for you. I just posted on here for my first time today. It's a few posts above yours. I have been suffering from these for years now and they still scare the living daylights out of me. I have become obsessed these last 2 weeks.

I haven't had as many tests done as you have but I do plan on it. I'm afraid to find out what's wrong and just afraid to go to the doctor period. Pretty dumb I know.

It is oddly good to read that I am not alone with these dreadful palps. It's good that your tests have come back normal. It should at least give you peace of mind about them. But I definitely understand how scary they are. I wish you the best.

HI, I am a newbie too, be strong.. for every action there is a n equal and opposite reaction, so if something like palps started, it must also be able to stop....
