Newby and terrified
Apr 26th, 2013, 1:39am

I have been having palpitations on and off for a couple of years, norm ally a little flurry, sometimes they make me cough and tend to scare me but stupidly I have never done anything about it. I have just been sat at my desk at work, feeling quite relaxed when I have had a terrifying attack of palpitations. My neck felt like it was being squeezed, and I went very dizzy. It stopped but I am feeling very shaky and am terrified about SADs or something happening. Is this just 'normal' palpitations or something worse?

Not being a doctor - I can say that I many times have read in this group that vagus-nerve-induced palpitations quite often are felt in the neck. Because this "big" nerve, belonging to the autonomous nervous system ennervates both heart, lungs, neck, gi-tract and brain.
The vagus nerve sometimes carries "wayward" impulses which then might "hit" for instance both heart and neck.

To be sure, though, that what you are feeling really ARE benign palpitations, which it probably is, you should call at your doctor and get a checkup. I think a simple ecg will tell you if there might be something wrong.

Best of luck

You need to be medically evaluated before any advice or suggestions are given.

I'm sure you will be fine though as its very rare that they are serious.$

Thanks for the replies. I hate that 24 hours a day, I am just waiting for another one to happen, cannot relax. Which I know doesn't help. I'm going to the doctors tomorrow so will see what happens.
Thanks.
