Treadmill stress tests
Mar 17th, 2007, 9:23am

Hi RLR
I am just wondering this... I have had the all clear from my cardiologist yesterday regarding all tests - echocardiogram, stress treadmill test and the 7 day heart monitor. He says that I am suffering from multiple ectopics frequently but they are benign.

What I was wondering though is, okay my heart rate was pushed to 171 on the monitor during the 9 mins of the test and there were ectopics towards the beginning and end of the test. But what is odd is that I had palpitations set in badly at yoga class during exertion (which you  already kindly answered), but also on mild exertion out in the garden. Is is possible that different types of excercise other than running trigger bad problems? I managed the exercise test just fine and didn't feel too out of breath either - in fact I surprised myself as I thought I might be on my knees, but I do have an active life walking everywhere with my two kids and am up and downstairs all day at home!

I feel like I need to be so armed with information to beat this!

Interestingly my cardiologist told me he had ectopics for a while and that is why he studied to become a cardiologist - so I do feel lucky to have seen him because he certainly knows what it is like, doesn't he?

Thanks for all the reassurance so far. I just need to find a therapist who really specialises in anxiety about health - I am not having luck so far.

I am going back on the atenolol as there have been a few episodes in the past of narrow complex tachycardia which he said was probably re-entrant type, but this was short lived (a few seconds) and caught only once on tape but atenolol would hopefully prevent that?

Pleased to hear your news about all your tests. There are a few books on health anxiety but they are expensive. It sounds like you have a good doctor. I know that stress, lack of sleep brings on my anxiety but quite often I just wake up anxious (like today) and have ectopics (not sure which comes first) - could it just be coincidence that you get them under mild exertion?

Hi

It is good news about your tests.  Like Saab said there are books you can get until you get a therapist, only place I can think that may do them at a resonable prize if your interested is Amazon.com - (I probably sound like a shop a holic what with bid TV, e-bay and Amazon, I only wish I was and had the money to do so) Saying that I said to my sister the other day retail therapy helps me loads so thats probably why I feel more uptight, as I haven't been able to.

I also think that perhaps sub-conciously you worry about doing exercise, so without realising you're anxious, I do get days that whenever I bend over or am doing washing etc I get them or even just walking up the school, but I've realised I always am thinking about exercise and the effects.

Once again good news you can relax
