Ectopics
Sep 12th, 2007, 4:54am

Hi there
Yes, I know I am always on here but I am still not getting to grips with this. for the last few days my palpitations have been getting worse - I mean constant ectopics (rther than the rapid regular heartbeat which comes and goes). I don't understand what is going on because on many levels my anxiety is down - I no longer avoid much and I am busy and occupied with the kids.

The ectopics come on as soon as I stand up and move around - they settle if I am sat or lying still. It's very uncomfortable because they are leaving me out of breath all the time. In fact I find that if I start talking that is enough to set them off for ages. They aren't just a small run of ectopics - they are pretty much constant until I am able to sit down and relax for quarter of an hour or more. This isn't really possible with the amount I have to do.

the best way I can explain what it feels like is happening is that my  body is reacting really badly to changes in blood pressure - so if I move my head or my body up or down, or bend down or sit or get up, it triggers a weird heart rhythm. Please can you explain this.

RLR - do you still think this is nothing to worry about, even if they are getting worse and more constant? And despite my anxiety going down? I would say my main anxiety now is about the symptoms here but they happen as soon as I get up even when I haven't been thinking about them.

Hi beadbabe,

Just thought I'd say "HI" cos I'm on here too!! I'm sorry you're feeling frustrated by your ectopics. They are absolutely foul aren't they?

I'm sure when RLR reads your post he will give you some reassurance. If it is any consolation at all - I have had this 'episode' of constant ectopics since last November, which is different for me as usually they can be around for a couple of months and then die down. Like you, mine used to feel a lot better if I was lying down or resting - but this time they are constant. They used to start about half an hour after getting out of bed in the morning - but now they don't stop at all.

I have either every 2,3, or 4 beats missing most of the day and night (even when I'm on beta blockers everyday). I got REALLY worried that they had changed this time, (i.e so it must mean something wrong). But amazingly I just had the results of a monitor test that says that my base line heart rythm is fine!!! I've not seen the consultant again yet - but I've got a load of questions for him when I do!!

It is SO hard to believe that your heart can be all over the place and still not be doing you any damage. I know what you mean about feeling breathless too - I get that a lot which makes me avoid a lot of things. I get it when I'm eating a lot too and go quite dizzy! I get a spaced out feeling too sometimes - but that may be just the anxiety!

I hope you are feeling better very soon
