Faintness during exercise
Feb 05th, 2008, 6:06am

Hi RLR
I wondered if you could explain or if any others who go the the gym have experienced this.

I keep feeling faint after I have done chest presses at the gym. As you may or may not remember I have embarked on a gym program (which was a very big step for me what with all my ectopics). I am a few months into it now and even embarking on running no the treadmill. I feel tired but not faint when I do that and that must be harder work on the heart, so why do I feel faint as soon as I get up from doing the chest presses. Is it because it is using muscles around the chest and heart? Should I be avoiding this? The other day I did the excercise then went upstairs for the next machine and when I sat down my hearing went (as if I was about to faint). Recoverd after sitting for a while with a drink. Today it happened immediately I stood up.

Hi Bead,
sorry you're having such a rough time, I think you're doing really well to keep going to the gym.
I could be completely wrong here as obviously I don't know exactly what you feel like when you say you feel faint but I know that years ago when I used to weight train I used to find that I would get really light headed & kind of spacey. When I stopped it would go off & like you, I didn't get it doing cardio stuff only on the weights machines. I realised sometime later that actually I was overbreathing (sort of mild hyperventilation!!) when I was on the weights machines, I just couldn't get my breathing right.
Could this be the case for you too? Hope you feel better soon!
love Seffie xx

hi seffie
thanks for the reply. Oh maybe... although can you faint through breathing wrong? perhaps you can.
Actually I am starting to get less palpitations these last few weeks, not counting my chickens yet though, but still counting the ectopics ha ha Smiley

Hi Bead, i know what you mean about your ears going 'off'.  This is what happens to me, although mine can go off at any time at all, day or night, upright or sitting or even lying down in bed.  I was just lying in bed awake this morning and my left one shut off completely.  I hate it so much and it still scares me.  Then i get a high pitched squeal sometimes too and then my ear feels funny for hours after.  The feeling that it gives me is so horrible isn't it?  The other day at work i was feeling ok and i just stood up and it shut off again, so scary for me.
Hope you are feeling better today, you are doing so very well to be going the gym and to keep going the way you do.  Well done to you!!x
