RLR,
I have been to the Dr so many times it is stupid! Tonight while I was working,I got hot like a hot flash (I'm post meno) and then I got nausa and my left arm, mostly left shoulder was hurting, Most of it passed except my left shoulder is hurting. I was under a lot of stress this wonderful day. How do you know when to go to the ER,  when in the back of your head, you think this is stress,  but what if your wrong. I can't keep running up medical bills!!!!

I understand your frustration. Realize that the referred pain, primarily to the left arm in the case of a heart attack, is actually occurring at the region of the heart due to an ischemic event. Ischemia is quite a painful experience and it tends to prevent other activity on the mild side, demonstrating excruciating pain on the far end.

Heart disease takes years to develop and since you've undergone the basic run of diagnostic tests, this is likely stress-related. Stress has its own set of consequences.

The general rule of thumb is that if the symptoms persist more than 2 hours or appear to be growing worse, then simply call your doctor to discuss alternatives. In the absence of other symptoms, however, simple pain in the arm and shoulder do not constitute a sign of an impending cardiac event. Pain in the left arm and shoulder can occur from a lot of things and you shouldn't always try to pair it with the well-versed symptoms of heart disease. Simple things first.

If you had a predisposing condition or high risk factors, then it might be a different story. But that's not the case here. Take a breath and relax. Stress is about perspective a lot of the time, so focus your efforts on changing the way you may be viewing stressful situations.

You'll be fine.

Thanks for the reply, may I ask if that holds true for other symptoms of mine? I now have left facial pain and a burning in my left breast an left shoulder blade.

This was responded to on private message, but unless your pain is radiating along the lower jaw line rather than the frontal sinus area, then the symptoms are more likely due to musculoskeletal tension.

The pain is in my lower jaw and at the joint and by my ear and upper teeth line!
Thanks

Your description would more suggest tempromandibular joint inflammation and is common for persons under stress. The pain that radiates to the jaw from a cardiovascular event is typically more experienced at the front central point and is sensed from the neck upward to the jaw rather than at the TMJ.

My suggestion here is that you refrain from any ruminations about your heart. As always, if you nevertheless feel concerned then it's best for you to be evaluated by your primary care physician. The internet is certainly no place to try and obtain a medical evaluation of symptoms in the absence of direct examination.

Hi Glen

I suffer from TMJ  and it has really occured because of anxiety and stress - the one thing I do do at night is grind my teeth and I know when I have been doing it because my jaw aches in the morning - not only that I get pain in my arm my shoulder my ear in my head TMJ can affect a lot of areas - but as RLR said it is best to get it checked - I was referred by my dentist to the hospital and it was mainly x rays taken  and  lots of questions  to find out if I had the condition. I had a plate made to wear at night to stop me grinding my teeth but I am not very good at wearing it.  It is a shame that something like this can sometimes be the effect of stress and anxiety when we have already got the palpitations.  Before I went to the doctor though I was thinking it could be all sorts of things particularly associated with my heart - well really any little tweek I get I think is associated with my heart.  Always have done and so the anxiety grows but at least I have found out what is causing these particularl aches and pains.  The trouble is we are so sensitized to the problem of worry about our health it is a difficult circle to get out of.  I have some fairly good weeks but of late not a lot because I have had a lot worry and anxiety - but I keep visiting the site for my re assurance and it helps such a lot.
