I've had almost every kind there is... hard thumps, soft flutters, flip-flops, machine-gun thumps, squirmies, stumbles (where it feels like your heart can't catch a normal rhythm), fast runs, you name it. The first bad run of palps I had, my doctor put me on beta blockers too... he seemed to think they kicked in when my heart was beating fast, but it turned out the opposite was true, my heart was beating fast when I got palps, due to the stress they caused. Tongue

If yours have gotten worse since going on beta blockers, you might want to tell your doctor that... while they definitely slow your heart down, they can sometimes aggravate palps in some people. Medication often doesn't always affect everyone the same way. With your doctor's help you can try around until you find what works best for you.

(edited due to communications failure... sorry, I never really developed a good sense of sequential thought! Wink)

Yes it's definitely true, I get them sometimes if I have gas or acid reflux, if you read the stickied HEART PALPITATIONS 101 posts at the top of the forum it explains all about how it happens. Knowing how they happen helped me to not worry about them, which in turn helped them go away. Smiley

Like you Kalah I have had just about every different combination/permutation, call it what you will of these horrible beats. I should be used to them now as I have had them on and off for about 30 years - man and boy. That still didn't stop me from a trip to A&E and an overnight stay in Hospital at the weekend  Embarrassed

Yes chantel they can become an obsession, but please don't get to the point where they entirely rule your life, I have been there (well in fact I am back there again now) it is not pleasant.

Yes, you will find that there is a definite link between your gassy tummy and your palpitations although some Doctors seem unaware of this, it will be an eye opener for you to read some of the marvellous information given by RLR on this forum. I have just been diagnosed with IBS and Gastritis, well I have been suffering from symptoms for several months now and in that time I have had experienced some horrendous bouts of ectopics coinciding with periods when my stomach has been really bloated.

A word of advice, do not try to come off beta blockers straight away after prolonged use, they should only be withdrawn gradually and then under the guidance of your Doctor.

i felt my palps in my throat quite a lot but now its changed to little thumps again! i think the more you focus on them the more they become an annoyance and scare the shite out of you!!! its very common to feel them in your throat mine always felt one sided too! very strange, keep ya chin up you can get through it !!! x
