RLR HELP!!
Dec 21st, 2010, 7:39am

Ok as i was lying in bed reading I get this big thump in the center of my chest.  Is that a ectopic beat also? I have NEVER had this before.  I have had the skipped beat, fluttery feeling, but never this. It scared the daylights out of me.
As far a dr visits in the last year I have had probably 4 EKGs but that is all the testing.  Should I be checked out better, or is the diagnosis of ectopic beats ok and leave it at that.  This is horrible.  Any information is appreciated, and thank you so much.

Funny you posted that as I had the very same thing happen last night in bed. Scared me also, I thought my heart had just stopped LOL. My opinion on what happened is you did not feel the ectopic but the beat after, pushing out the excess blood basically just the "flop".  Normally when I have ectopics, I feel either a fast flip flop, or a flip "pause" then flop. So im guessing I just did not feel the extra beat, only the one after. Hope this helps.

Mine seem to happen mainly at night when I am lying down, I think there is something with the whole lying down thing.  Sometimes I hate to go to bed, cause it seems I always have problem!! Argh!

Danielle, those are the type of palps I have. They're normal. Annoying, haha, but normal.

Hope this makes you feel a little bit better Smiley

Have you been to see your GP at all?  If not sounds like a trip could be a good thing so they can tell you everything's ok.

Also the Heart Palpitation 101 threads (all 6 of them) in the General Discussions forum are very good.  They talk you through what palps are bit by bit and probably answer most of your questions.

Yes I have been to see 2 different GPs one said ectopic beats one didn't catch anything on a EKG between the 2 I have had probably 4 in the past 6 months. Neither seemed real concerned.  You know there is always that doubt in the back of your mind.  Its terrible!!  Thanks for the replies this site is GREAT!!

The palpitation events you are describing and experiencing are absolutely benign. They are induced by stimulation of the heart by the vagus nerve and do not constitute a warning sign of heart disease, nor do the events have the capacity to inflict harm in any manner.

You'll be just fine. Glad to have you with us and you'll find the members here to be very supportive.

Best regards and Good Health
