This is known as pulsatile tinnitus and in of itself does not suggest a problem to exist. Muscular tension in specific areas of the neck can sometimes cause proximal continuity to the auditory nerve and the ascending carotid artery, producing a tympanic region capable of transmitting the sound of blood being pumped through the lumen of the artery.

I have had this in my right ear for over 6 years with not a seconds peace. Its also accompanied by vertigo when I tilt my head to the right. I've seen an ENT and had an MRI but wasnt diagnosed with anything. Undecided
