Peripheral Neuropathy and abnormal ECG
Sep 20th, 2012, 10:42pm

Hi All

I've suffered from Peripheral Neuropathy for over a year. The Neurologist said it as Inflammatory Peripheral Neuropathy probably caused by a virus and would improve over time. I had muscle twitches, burning soles of feet, and pins and needles in hands and feet. Things did start to improve until a fwe weeks ago when muscle twitches became more pronounced and I was having palpitations. I had been having minor palpitations for about 6 months but these new ones kept me awake at night. The GP repeated my bloods and my Thyroid was slightly high 15.3 rather than max 14.4. My ECG was also abnormal - flattened P wave  and I'm now being referred back to the Neurologist and having a 24 hr tape.

My fear is that i have a deteriorating autonomic peripheral neuropathy.

Does anyone on the forum have any similar experiences?

Thanks

Andy

hi Andy

I wish I could help you.
What I can tell you is that I have some same experiences. I have burning skin for months now . 24 hours a day. muscle twitches also. I am afraid of a neuropathy. I also have chest pains for years now with strange sensations on my chest. My heart came back normal in a couple of EKG and tests. In the beginning of june I got these skin burning sensations and from then  on I feel worse. more pain, tired, lots of weird sensations increased. What puzzels me is that the same sensations in one person are called nauropathy and in the other person ..take me for instance .. is called nothing..anxiety..
I want checked by a specialist at all for neuropathy. my doc doesnt see the point in  doing so. I understand your fear and I hope you get answers soon and most of all you get help !!

i´ve been searching for answers for years now and espescially the last 4 months. I do feel worse every day. And although people try to convince me that what I have is anxiety related.. I notice that my body keep telling me that besides anxiety , cause yes sometimes I get anxious , I guess everyone would in my position,  but that besides anxiety there is something not right. not as it used to be.

flat P wave  The P wave represents the spread of electrical activity over the atrium as far as I know.
I hope RLR will answer this for you.

good luck

Thanks Richie

Until i saw a Neurologist most people felt i was suffering from stress but I could just tell that there was something systemic going on. Mind you, I directly asked my GP on my 5th appointment with him whether he felt this could 'all be in my head' and he said 'No'. In the end it was me who came up with the diagnosis of Neuropathy and he accepted that (he initially thought chronic fatigue syndrome) and referred me to the neurologist who agreed and came up with something more specific.

Your experiences sound very similar to mine. Especially the really tired feelings. I currently feel exhausted and I'm not sleeping.

I've been a very fit and healthy 43 year old up until now - hardly visited the GP.

I hope you get some answers at some point

Best,
