Pal's from a nurse's prospective
May 22nd, 2013, 2:15am

Thank goodness i've found this forum - it's been a life saver.
I have palpitations everyday and have for the past year now- they are getting increasing worse and to make matters extra frightening i'm a Cardiac nurse who works on a busy coronary care unit, so I get to see the extreme side of things.
Having said that I am not expert in palpitations, but I have a good knowledge in rhythm recognition and reading ECG's- so you can probably guess I have numerous ECG'S of mine in a large folder being collected. My ECG'S are not that exciting really they show ventricular ectopics but I can have 5 or 6 on one ECG, but the experience of having them and actually feeling the palpitations are frightening- many times I end up in tears with the feeling that I have nowhere to turn or no-one to talk to who understands - until I found this forum.
I am under a cardiologist (who happens to be my boss) I've had ECG'S and Echo's (which was normal) and a signal average ECG- which show VE's.Having gone back to my cardiologist (crying like a baby- which isnt good when you work with him) he booked me in for a cardiac MRI - which incidentally is this afternoon- I am so frightened what they might find  :'(
Although this is my first post I have been a regular guest on here reading people's journey's  and you all seem so brave. I'm not sure what I wanted to get out of this post - nothing really - I just wanted to share my experience with you. This forum has been of great comfort to me, if I used to get pal's I would sit on a chair with my fingers on my carotid artery feeling for any arrhythmia and the phone in the other hand ready to ring work to say"get the bed, adrenaline and defib ready i'm coming in" (crazy I know). But now I sit down with a cuppa open my lap top and reading all you lovely people's experience - and it makes me feel secure and not alone, their are people who experience what I do- and you are all wonderful.
Good luck to you all and good health. Wink

Have they checked your thyroid?  I suppose they did.  It will be a comfort to hear from you since you know a lot about this subject.  Let us know!!  And feel better!

It's been some time, but I wonder how your MRI went? If I were you, I'd ask my boss about a million questions. Although, I see how working in a cardiac unit could increase your fears some because as you said, you see the worse side of things there. I hope all is well.
